Sabah Bumiputera contractors to be given top priority in Sabah Oil & Gas projects

NAIM Holdings Berhad (Naim) has assured Sabah Bumiputera contractors that they would be given top priority and opportunity in the implementation of the Sabah Oil & Gas Terminal (SOGT) project at Kimanis, Papar in Sabah.

Giving the assurance during a courtesy call on Sabah Chief Minister Datuk Seri Musa Aman in Kota Kinabalu recently, its chairman Datuk Abdul Hamed Sepawi said the company had in the past successfully played its role in developing and supporting local Bumiputera vendors and contractors and would continue to do so.

He cited the previously completed suburban water supply project for their Bumiputera Vendors Development Programme, which was drawn up to raise the capability of small companies and promote the participation of Bumiputera entrepreneurs in economic activities, as an example.

The courtesy call on Musa was held in conjunction with a study visit by Naim’s top brass to identify areas which the group could explore in Sabah and also to understand the sentiments and views of the local community.

Abdul Hamed reiterated Naim’s interest to invest and participate in various potential opportunities in Sabah.

“With Naim’s outstanding track record together with the right Sabah partner, the development and progress in Sabah can be delivered efficiently and effectively to ensure its benefit reaches Sabahans,” he said.

Abdul Hamed said Naim had been able to secure a wide variety of key infrastructure projects awarded by the both the Federal and State Governments, including major road upgrading projects, construction of schools and colleges, and high profile flagship projects.

To date, Nain has completed over RM2.2bil worth of government projects all on or ahead of the scheduled delivery dates, and has an order book worth more than RM3.5bil.

Focusing on quality, performance and reliability has led Naim to receive several prestigious industry awards, including the CIDB’s Industry Excellence Award (five times), the much-coveted Builder of the Year award (2004), the KPMG Shareholder Value Award (2004), the International Construction and Global Quality Management (GQM) Award (Spain, 2005), and FIABCI’s Property Man of the Year award for its managing director Datuk Hasmi Hasnan (2009).
