New Recruitments At Naim Cendera Group

Naim Cendera Group of Companies (Naim), the respected home builder and award winning contractor has welcomed aboard Mr Yong Chiong Vun as Technical Advisor and Mr. Janang Sawing as Senior Project Manager to the group’s management team.

Yong who was Northern Region Water Board (LAKU) former Chief Executive Officer from January 1996 to March 2005 will be heading Naim’s team in the feasibility studies of the proposed Kuching’s water privatization project while Janang, formerly the Principal Assistant Director in Special Projects Unit and also in the State Implementation Monitoring Unit of the Sarawak Chief Minister’s Department is assuming the post as Senior Project Manager of the up coming Bengoh Dam construction project.

With his wealth of experience and vast knowledge, Yong will render invaluable contribution to the speedy completion of the ongoing feasibility study that was awarded to Naim by the State Government and officially announced in early April.

Leading a dynamic team comprising of local experts, the feasibility study is expected to be completed ahead of schedule and to provide the State Government with comprehensive details on the proposed privatization measures.

Yong who has 35 years of experience with the State government has spent 26 years working as an engineer with the Public Works Department (PWD) from 1970 to 1995.

A civil engineering graduate from University of New South Wales, Australia Yong as CEO of LAKU has led this government agency to achieve wide recognitions and scale greater heights as the State’s privatized arm responsible for the management and supply of water in the northern region.

For his contribution to the State of Sarawak, he was awarded Pegawai Bintang Kenyalang (PBK), Pingat Perkhidmatan Bakti (PPB) and Pingat Perkhidmatan Setia.

The feasibility study on the proposed water privatization project is of utmost importance to Naim and is in direct relation to the construction of the RM250 million Bengoh Dam which was also awarded to the CIDB “Builder of the Year 2004” award winning group.

A civil engineering graduate from University of Glasgow, Scotland in UK, Janang has 13 years working experience in the PWD with postings as Resident Engineer in MRCU 9 in Saratok (1989-1991) and later as Betong District Engineer (1991-1999) and Sri Aman Assistant Divisional Engineer (1999 – 2002).

Prior to his present appointment, the 42-year-old engineer served in CMD and was in charge of many strategic projects that include the following:
– Bakun Hydroelectric Project
– Bakun Resettlement Scheme, Sungai Asap
– Proposed Aluminium Smelter Plant, Bintulu
– Pulp and Paper Project

The first of its kind in Kuching, the dam project is massive and Janang will be leading a team which is responsible for the development, management and coordination of the speedy works on RM250 million project.

The Bengoh Dam which is located about 30km from the Batu Kitang Water Treatment plant will provide a major source of water supply for Kuching.

Naim, the Sarawak-based property and construction group is the first to have won the prestigious Malaysia’s Construction Industry Excellence Award (MCIEA) awarded by Construction Industry Development Board (CIDB) from 2002 to 2004.

In 2004, the group was also awarded the Malaysia-Canada Business Council (MCBC) award and this year, it won the first international award from the Spain-based Trade Leaders’ Club in the New Millennium Award Category for industry excellence.

For its active involvement in community, social and environment related activities, Naim was also awarded the Corporate, Social and Environmental Responsibilities (CSR) Award by the Bahrain-Malaysia Business Investment Council.

Moving On

William Wei How Sieng, a former Executive Director of Naim Cendera will be moving on to pursue his own business. He has resigned from Naim’s board on the 31st May, 2005 and has been retained and appointed as our Technical Consultant.
