Naim, Hydropol seek possible cooperation and JV devt

KUCHING: Naim Engineering Sdn Bhd, a wholly-owned subsidiary of Naim Holdings Bhd, one of Malaysia’s leading developers and contractors, recently entered into a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Hydropol Project and Management, a part of the established Hydropol Group, in Prague, Czech Republic.

Representing Naim and Hydropol at the signing ceremony were Naim Group managing director Datuk Hasmi Hasnan and Hydropol managing director Jan Tošnar.

Established in 1994 and one of major players in international hydropower development, Hydropol focuses on hydropower development in all areas from greenfield projects and rehabilitation to engineering and financial structuring, according to Naim’s press statement received here yesterday.

Hydropol plans, builds, operates and finances small and medium hydropower plants and associated hydraulic structures such as dams, weirs and penstocks.

It also specialises in rehabilitating old mini hydro developments successfully in regions such as Europe, Indonesia and Korea.

Naim senior project director Seah Boon Kee said the MoU was a significant step in facilitating generation of renewable energy via micro and mini hydro in Sarawak.

“Our MoU with Hydropol focuses on possible co-operation and joint venture developments of suitable projects and programmes in the area of micro and mini hydro technologies in Sarawak and other parts of Malaysia.

“There would also be co-operation in terms of use of technical know-how as this would facilitate knowledge and technology transfer to our people in this specialised area.

“I understand that Hydropol would be embarking on surveys for hydropower development opportunities in Malaysia soon.

“Currently, there are various mini hydro developments in Sarawak. Hydropol, with its accumulated experience gained from successful implementation of many such projects over the years, would allow us to capitalise on the potential of renewable energy, something which is beneficial to the state in the long run,” explained Seah.

Czech Republic’s Deputy Minister of Industry and Trade Milan Hovorka, Deputy Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Alfred Jabu, Minister of Land Development Tan Sri Dr James Masing, Second Minister of Resource Planning and Environment Datuk Amar Awang Tengah Ali Hassan who is also Minister of Public Utilities and Minister of Industrial Development were among those present at the signing ceremony.
